Dental Implants Research ReviewThere was an interesting article recently published that showed 100% dental implant success rate on immediately loaded cases. That means the teeth were inserted on new dental implants within 48 hours of surgery.

The study was focused on tilted (crooked) dental implants in the upper jaw in humans. Doctors Cavalli, et al from Italy evaluated the cases for up to 5 years and checked for health and complications. Each patient had two dental implants placed straight or axially and two dental implants were placed tilted. All immediately loaded dental implants were successful.

The most common complications were as follows:

  • Hygiene (cleanliness) around the prosthetic teeth and gum tissues
  • Inflammation
  • Temporary restoration chipping / fractures
  • Final ceramic restoration chipping / fractures
  • Bite issues

The conclusion was that these dental implants are a viable treatment option. The authors warn that patient follow-up and hygiene appointments are paramount to avoid biological and prosthetic complications.

Early intervention equals increased chance of health and success with dental implants, abutments and ceramic fixed bridges.
