Dr Joe Kravitz dental implants for sjogrens syndrome patientsNo.

Failure of dental implants is caused by such factors as bacteria, excessive forces, poor wound healing, poor personal hygiene, and neglect. Reduced saliva does not cause dental implant failures.

Sjögren’s Syndrome decreases saliva in the mouth, for the body attacks the moisture producing glands – salivary glands.

  • Dental implants are made from titanium and zirconium.
  • Neither material is negatively affected by less saliva in the mouth.
  • Having a dry mouth does not cause implant failures in Sjögren’s Syndrome patients.

If you get a chance, read through some useful information on xerostomia and dry mouth from the National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research.
